The thing about being a retreat junkie (whether giving them or going to them) is that you bond with women who live far away. Two of my favorite people, Jeanne Oliver and Serena Berry, are friends who I don’t see nearly enough.
I thought it was time we gathered at my dad and Bonus Mom’s place in Manzanita (who graciously lets me have girlfriend weekends there), an adorable Oregon Coast town, to play and talk and dream.
It was nothing short of wonderful…a summer memory I will hold close to my chest as we head into the fall.
It was a no-makeup day—at least Jeanne had glasses to hide behind! I love beach time when you can take off your watch and live by the rhythm of the day…of course, eating every ten minutes and downing too much coffee. Awesome.
Serena’s a NW girl, so the beach is nothing new for her…but she always manages to see the beauty in the little things. I would’ve missed these deeply wedged pebbles if she hadn’t of stopped with a “Coooool!”
She is so lovely in every way. A calm falls over a room whenever she’s in it…I always feel more at peace in Serena’s presence. If you get a chance, her retreats are fantastic—Jeanne will be teaching again this year. On beautiful Bainbridge Island, no less.
A phone hijack from Jeanne as I’m innocently driving to the coast…she is honestly one of the funniest women I’ve ever met. ‘Hard to drive straight when you’re afraid you might pee your pants. She should do stand-up…really. It makes me a bit sad to look at this picture because I miss her already...knowing we won’t be in the flesh again anytime soon. I’m hoping to steal her family away to the beach next summer. I love this girl!

Here’s hoping you have some girlfriend time this summer….man, do we need it as moms and wives! It revives and helps me to jump into my vida loca at home, post vacation.
